Bristol has always been the creative home of some of the UK's most inspired, and inspiring artists and to a young aspiring producer, now commonly known to the world as Clipz, growing up in Bristol in the mid '90s was a time of extreme musical stimulation. Having a deep rooted interest in the emerging sounds of Drum & Bass around him, Clipz began to create his own tracks in his bedroom studio from the age of 21 and it wasn't long after that a chance meeting with MC GQ at an Internet radio station led to Clipz' first few releases exploding onto the scene on his Emcee Recordings label.
Quickly Clipz' reputation began to spread as his initial slew of releases garnered support from more and more of D&B's big dogs and soon tracks such as 'Mystic Amen' and the anthemic 'Cuban Links' brought his productions to the attention of DJ Krust, DJ Die and Roni Size who were all interested in working with this keen new talent. Snapping him up for their legendary label, the Full Cycle crew watched as their newest recruit became a giant in his own right, going on to sell tens of thousands of records, with tunes such as 'Sound Boy', 'Cocoa', 'Slippery Slopes' and 'New Generation' all flying off the shelves of record emporiums within seconds of being put out.
His main collaborator at Full Cycle became DJ Die and they forged a strong partnership in the studio, crafting modern day classics like 'Black Doves', 'Monorail' and 'Number 1' that each smashed up dancefloors from Bristol to Bangkok and London to Latvia. By 2006, Clipz felt the desire to build up his own brand and decided it was time to break out on his own - enter Audio Zoo Recordings, his own imprint that kicked off with 'Download' and 'Rubbish', two releases that became the biggest selling Drum & Bass records that year! Not only were the tunes great sellers, but Clipz had a strong desire to create a visual element that ties in with his label, as a result each single has had its own video, all of which have been playlisted by MTV.
Inspired by a cross section of music and not limited to the 174bpm breakbeat pressure of Drum & Bass, Clipz has always enjoyed working with vocalists and currently he's producing tracks for Ben Westbeech's new album and working on a recording project called S.C.U.M. featuring the vocal talents of Shiv. Meanwhile Clipz has built a solid reputation as a DJ over the past few years and finds himself in huge demand across the globe, while holding down a monthly radio show on KISS 101
how does he find the time?
Watch out for forthcoming releases on Audio Zoo including 'Offline', 'Ugly' featuring Hollie G, 'Loud & Dirty' featuring Shiv & the TC Remix of 'Push It Up'
